By Nikki Todd

BRISBANE, Aug 11 AAP - Police interviewed two teenage boys after a Gold Coast highschool was scorched early today - the eighth arson attack on the school this year.

Gold Coast police Inspector Rick Wall said the boys were detained just after a firebroke out at Helensvale State High School about 3am (AEST).

Insp Wall said the boys were found near the school just after the incident occurred, but no charges had yet been laid.

Police believe the fire started after a container of flammable liquid was placed outsidea door and lit.

Damage was limited to scorch marks after a security guard quickly doused the fire andalerted police to the incident.

The attack was the latest in a series of deliberately lit fires at the school thisyear, with seven previous attacks causing $2.3 million damage.

Last month, Queensland Police Commissioner Bob Atkinson said a task force of four detectives, including two arson specialists, would investigate the fires.

An Education Queensland spokeswoman said security around the school had been beefedup to try and prevent further attacks.

Anyone who has any further information, or who saw people or cars in the vicinity ofthe school about 3am today, are urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
