NSW: Sydney Airport baggage crisis worsens
SYDNEY, Aug 25 AAP - Problems with the troubled $43 million baggage system at Sydney
International Airport have reportedly worsened.
The Sydney Morning Herald said today that an average 61 bags go missing from the airport
each day because of breakdowns - a rate more than 20 times the acceptable international
standards.
Angry workers have told the newspaper more than 3,200 bags have gone astray in the
past two months.
They have predicted huge delays and baggage problems during the Olympic Games.
The newspaper said relations between airline staff and Sydney Airports Corporation
plunged to new lows in the wake of a baggage system collapse last weekend.
